CC’s BeesWax SurfWax

Just discovered there are loads of surfing beekeepers out there wanting more natural and organic ways to wax their boards. Recipes to make your own surf wax …

Beeswax + Coconut oil = sounds eeeeaasy enough.

And as it happens, yesterday I adopted a hive at bee club and cleaning excess wax off the hive was one of the first little jobs. So by the end of the session, and after telling my fellow beekeepers of my intentions,  I had collated a whole pocket full of wax cleaned from lids and tops of frames.

Halfway there I would say.

It smells just divine.

I was too excited (foolish) and too busy sniffing my new found treasure to listen to the advice given about melting it down and filtering it. Erm… well, the word rainwater was mentioned but surely you just heat it up and filter it through some muslin?

Time for a bit of googling, you tube-ing and raiding other beekeeper’s blogs methinks (Laura Rittenhouse – I’m coming your way!).

CC’s Beeswax Surfwax… here we come!

And here is my lovely lump.

Wax from Hive 3

and the size of it in relation to a pen... yup, I'll probably get a bit of wax the size of a button!
